Flexible Work Practice Policy of [Retail company]
[Retail company’s] commitment to flexibility
At [Retail Company] we are committed to providing the best possible work environment for our employees because we value our people and we know that’s good for our business.
This means that we are committed to implementing flexible work practices such as part-time work, job-sharing arrangements, working from home, annual leave taken as single days, flexible working hours and part-year employment so that our people can balance their work and personal commitments.
Employer obligations
We recognise that it is unfair to discriminate against employees on the basis of their family responsibilities, or on the basis that they are working flexibly to meet those responsibilities. We also recognise that we should reasonably accommodate our employees' family responsibilities, which means assisting people to use a flexible work practices if they meet personal and business needs.
Employer responsibilities
Flexible work practices are not an entitlement, but a matter of mutual obligation and commitment. This means that an employee who wants to work flexibly must present a business case to us which addresses how the arrangement will benefit both the individual and the business, and that we will not unreasonably refuse a good business case. If the business case is unclear, we will consider implementing the requested flexibility for a trial period.
Getting started
An employee may submit a request to work flexibly to his or her manager. The application should address when the arrangement will commence, how it will operate, how business needs will be met, when it will be reviewed, how performance will be evaluated, and whether the arrangement will continue or be for a set duration.
