DEWR develops policies, implements and manages programmes directed at maximising working age Australians' ability to participate in the workforce and improves the productive performance of enterprises in Australia.

To do this, the department provides for government high-quality advice and services designed to achieve three outcomes: efficient and effective labour market assistance; higher productivity, higher pay workplaces; and increased workforce participation.
