5. Implementing greater flexibility could mean more work for me.

Some managers do find that in the initial stages of implementing greater flexibility, their workload can increase (eg recruiting, setting up communication systems). However, it is also their experience that the business benefits, in terms of increased productivity and retention of valued and experienced employees, far outweigh these initial workload changes.

In terms of part-time and job-share employees, many managers also find that these people are able to work with lower levels of supervision. Another option you might consider is to give your work group more responsibility for ensuring that flexible work practices are effective (eg by implementing self rostering, where people put themselves forward for shifts that suit their circumstances and have responsibility for managing any changes that arise).
